The Merseysiders are thought to be interested in adding a right-sided winger to the forward line as an absolute minimum.

One to two further signings after Barcola? If you’re asking us, that leaves Andoni Iraola short for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign (and certainly at least until we get another chance to rectify matters in January).

But if you’re going to leave the manager short, you can at least ensure that one department is properly stocked. Add a naturally right-sided winger and a backup striker and this looks like a forward line ready to deliver the goods this season.
Liverpool have to accept that they’re going to overpay
While Hughes and Co. should be commended for their patience in holding out for a more modest fee for Bradley Barcola, we should perhaps question just how much it has benefited our strategy.
Yes, at one time PSG were understood to be quoting Liverpool at around the £145m mark for the French international. But on that basis, taking into account the reported £120m package deal (£100m guaranteed), has the wait really been worth it?
From a reputational perspective, it doesn’t hurt to be known as the club that won’t just pay freely to get a deal over the line.

But we’re now in a position where we’ve backed ourselves into a corner deep in the summer transfer window, with five days to complete a further two deals.
And brinkmanship could very well see Liverpool miss out on their additional attacking targets for the sake of an extra £10m-20m.
It’s all well and good when the rest of the squad is in tip-top shape, but at this point in time we’re actually still in desperate need of bodies.
With Barcola done (almost). Is Mr Hughes now going to invest in a def/mf ..no.6 ?? For example Scott or Wharton ?? Yes it will cost but you have to pay for what you want don’t be so tight !!!! Why do they keep looking at wingers who are injured ?? Surely there are other options !

Gakpo unlikely to leave so our net spent wont be 54mil, added to this our net spent last season was more than most clubs so we have to buy according to our own situation/s

If we don’t sign a back up striker it makes sense to hold onto Gakpo, at least Jan when Ekitike is back. Or at the very least get someone on loan for a season.
We desperately need a No 6. It’s been 2 years now.
