One Liverpool player has taken a step closer to making his debut for the senior national team, judging by reports which have emerged over the past 24 hours.
In the early weeks of 2026, the Reds agreed a £60m deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, with the defender coming to Merseyside in the summer.
He had a truncated pre-season due to injury but has enjoyed a strong start to life at Anfield, with John Aldridge proclaming that the 21-year-old already ‘looks the real deal‘ in the famous red shirt, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed in his homeland.
Jacquet named in provisional France squad
As reported by L’Équipe (via Get French Football News), the Liverpool defender has been named in the provisional France squad by Zinedine Zidane, with the legendary ex-Real Madrid player and manager taking over from Didier Deschamps as head coach of Les Bleus after the World Cup.
The final squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures will be confirmed on Friday, with Jacquet among a host of players hoping for a senior debut for their country over the next month.
France are away to Turkey and Belgium in the final week of September before a home double header against Italy and Belgium in the first few days of October.

Jacquet gets his just reward for fine start to Liverpool career
There’s a chance that Jacquet doesn’t make the final cut and will have to wait until November at the earliest to make his senior international debut, but even his inclusion in the provisional squad shows that he’s in Zidane’s thoughts as France embark on a new era.
The Liverpool defender has won five under-21 caps for his country but could now be closing in on a senior bow, with his recent performances at Anfield earning him some deserved recognition from the new Les Bleus boss.
Breaking into the starting XI ahead of William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano won’t be an easy task, but the 21-year-old has seamlessly taken over from compatriot Ibrahima Konate at the heart of the Reds’ defence alongside inspirational captain Virgil van Dijk.
The merged international break affords Jacquet an extended window of opportunity to make his France debut, with four matches in 11 days likely to necessitate squad rotation from Zidane. That is, of course, if he’s included in the final pick on Friday.
Even if Jacquet misses out this time, though, it seems only a matter of when and not if the Liverpool starlet will win a senior cap for his country.
